These two red chilies twist around each other like they're mid-conversation, stems curling off in opposite directions. I wanted to capture that waxy, almost-too-shiny skin chilies get right before they're picked, so I leaned hard into the highlights. There's a little heat in this one even before you know what it's painted of.
About This Painting
Watercolor and gouache mixed media on a 2.5"x3.5" ACEO card. The chilies are built from layered red and deep maroon watercolor washes, with crisp white gouache dragged along the curves for that glossy, just-washed shine, and the stems worked in cool green-grey to keep them from disappearing into the red.
