There's something about a ghost that isn't scary at all that I really wanted to paint — round, soft-edged, wide dot eyes, glowing warm from somewhere underneath its own sheet. I set her wandering through a purple autumn forest at dusk, two little lanterns swinging on the branches and a scatter of firefly-gold sparkles catching the light. It's the cozy, cardigan-weather kind of spooky, not the scary kind.
About This Painting
Watercolor and gouache mixed media on a 2.5"x3.5" ACEO card. The forest is built from loose, blended watercolor washes — deep violet fading into warm amber where the lantern light pools — while the ghost herself and the lantern glow are opaque gouache, so she reads bright and soft against all that moody color. Little dots of white gouache scattered through the trees do double duty as fireflies and stars.
This is a one-of-a-kind original — once it's gone, this exact painting won't exist again.
