This one came from thinking about how dramatic it is to be a small creature in a big rainstorm. She's zipped all the way up in her yellow raincoat, both wings wrapped around an umbrella that's almost bigger than she is, and that worried little sideways glance says everything about how the walk home is going.
About This Painting
Watercolor and gouache mixed media on a 2.5"x3.5" ACEO card. The rain and soft grey shadows are loose watercolor washes, while the raincoat's punchy yellow and the umbrella's blue panels are built up in opaque gouache so they read clearly against the wet, muted background — that contrast is really what sells the "stay dry at all costs" mood.
This is a one-of-a-kind original — once it's gone, this exact painting won't exist again.
