Canelés are one of my favorite things to paint because of that contrast — the dark caramelized shell against the soft custard center. I plated two of them with a single bright raspberry for a pop of color, and honestly, painting this one made me hungry the whole time.
About This Painting
Watercolor and gouache mixed media on a 2.5"x3.5" ACEO card. The caramel shells are built from deep brown watercolor washes with glossy gouache highlights, while the raspberry is worked in dense red gouache to make it jump forward against the softer pastry tones.
This is a one-of-a-kind original — once it's gone, this exact painting won't exist again.
