Not every painting in this series needs a face — sometimes a little vase of berries and leaves is whimsy enough. This one started as a quiet still-life warm-up and turned into one of my favorite quiet cards: a rounded teal vase catching the light, holding a loose sprig of greenery dotted with deep magenta berries, the whole thing glowing against a warm cream-and-gold backdrop. It's the kind of scene I'd happily keep on a windowsill in real life.
About This Painting
Watercolor and gouache mixed media on a 2.5"x3.5" ACEO card. The vase is built from layered teal and blue-green watercolor washes with soft opaque gouache highlights along its rounded belly to give it that glossy, glazed-ceramic shine, while the berries are dabbed in rich magenta and plum gouache so they sit forward from the looser green leaves behind them. The warm cream background is left soft and washy, keeping all the attention on that little cluster of color.
This is a one-of-a-kind original — once it's gone, this exact painting won't exist again.
